ABOUT US |
As a kennel our aim is to produce first class healthy working dogs which also excel in the show ring for the sportsman and showman alike with the emphasis being first generation working dogs. All our imported dogs have achieved the Hungarian Work and Natural Ability Test and past the breeding test required for the breed set by the Hungarian Kennel Club so as you can see we have chosen our lines very carefully.Although our primary goal is to achieve the above, Hungarian Wirehairs make excellent companions provided the get plenty of exercise, love and attention. |
Our Aim as a Kennel |
We are a small breeder of this wonderful versatile dog and being involved in falconry and shooting i cannot praise this breed enough. We have a few exceptionally well bred dogs imported directly from Hungary. |
Although George Digweed is a household name in the shooting world winning countless world championships, few people realise how successful he is at running his commercial shoot at "Owley" on the Kent, Sussex border continually producing first class quality birds on every drive. We regularly work our dogs at Owley, with George shooting two or three times a week it gives them plenty of work with dogging in and picking up the main critera, with so many birds on the ground it gives me great pleasure watching this breed work with countless points, flushes and retrieves with endless enthusiasm and energy. |
In Hungary each vizsla should complete a "Breeding test" to be able to breed, it consist of two parts CONFORMATION TEST [Tenyeszszemle or TSZ on Pedigree] The dog is judged on its body conformation and breed standard requirements and must achieve Tenyesztheto [breedable] results. THE NATURAL ABILITY TEST [Kepessegvizsga or KV on Pedigree] Where all the Vizslas inherited natural ablities are tested. The main attention is paid on calmness, concentration, willingness to find and steadyness. During the test, the use and quality of the nose, the style and speed of the search, pointing, the signal of the game, the steadyness and obedience are judged as well. These two parts can be organised separately but it is obligatory to complete both to achieve the breeding license. It is not recommended to purchase pups whose parents are Hungarian Imports that have failed the breeding test, please ask to see the parents pedigree, if the Hungarian KC have failed it, the pedigree will be stamped Hungarian notice: "Engedely nelkuli parositas", "Korhatar alatti parositas"or "szulo nem rendelkezik az eloirt minositessel" |
We have about sixty days at Owley,Conster and Peasmarsh this season without the daily chore of dogging in, our dogs are kept constantly busy and need a high level of energy this is partly why i find this breed ideal. The guns themselves always show interest in the breed and we have had a number of pup orders from them. |
In 2007 we decided to turn our 700 acer hawking ground at Pelsham estate into a traditonal pheasant shoot,in order to inprove and inhance the drives we have successfuly incorprated a further 2o acer wetland wich regulary winters large amounts of wild duck including widgeon , teal, shovler, gadwal and pintail. We shoot on fridays with the syndicate taking most days but we do cater for a few sold days throughout the season, i myself keeper Pelsham, with dogging in,beating and picking up it all helps keeping the dogs on top of their game, this year we will be putting down 1,200 pheasants and with an addishion of 100 partridges and 200 mallard the dogs will have to earn their keep again this year. The advantages of working and running a shoot gives me the opertunaty to show any person purchasing a pup from us to see first hand the parents work in a natural enviroment , anybody wishing to do this is more than welcome, dont assume that because a breeder says the parents work thats actally true!! there is a huge differance between retriving a thrown dummy and real working. There are many factors to consider when buying a pup for working, dose it come from working stock? do the parents work? can i see them work? these are but a few, you are buying a life long work companion that will probaley cost you a small fortune in food and vets bills so do your homework look around and get it right. |
The natural undulation of the ground lends itself for shooting the "Pelsham Drop" produces stunning birds on a south westerly breeze.Again the Cottage Shaw drive produces 40yrd birds regularly. We are blessed with this type of terrain at Pelsham and we use it to the max,we have 4 main drives wich we are very pleased with and 2 back up drives not to be sniffed at.We have booked a few hawking days at the end of next season if any anyone is interested in booking a day we still have a few left. |

A fun days Hawking at Pelsham but we do sell Hawking days |
OUR SOLD HAWKING DAYS |
Our sold days at Pelsham are run at the back end of the shooting season and are aimed at the experienced and the unexperienced alike, it is advisable to have your hawk in yarak when flying this time of year as the pheasant and partridge have avoided the guns all season and are very fit,the rabbit hawking is second to none with grass fields and open long slips with some burrys 100 yrds from cover, or there are some great woodland burrys if you prefere watching a hawks explosive flight through wooded areas. On a sold day i can utalise my hawking ground to the max and can cater for rabbit days through-out the season starting in september i have about 5,000 acres in total all within 15 minuets travelling time.I can produce Mallard on the rise [from fed ponds] on one farm and may only have bolted rabbits on another so a bit of farm hopping may be the case depending what your requirments are.I accompany all Hawking partys doing all the donkey work ferreting, beating or working the dogs if you require them, i only cater for small partys with the minimum of two and the maximum of four with safety being paramount it all lends to a great day.I like the day to start sharp at 9.00am stopping for a bite at lunchtime and finnishing when the suns setting or before if you have had enough, the cost is £40 per head per day. contact Jim 07973 958002 e-mail falcongeen4@btinternet.com |
We are a predominantly a working kennel only choosing to breed when we have enough interest in the pups we may produce,we were very selective in choosing our lines from top working lines in Hungary and our litters will not be very numerous. |
