Training
Introducing game, dummys, balls and all manner of fluffy objects to a pup at a young age will encourage it to point and retrieve,
i also feel it helps with fear and suspicion when in the field at an older age.Socializing with other dogs and people are also very
very important and is a must if you want to have a happy none agressive or timid dog. underlining the fact that other
people, dogs and plenty of different smells and noises are good for them, pups should not be hidden away from the outside world
and remembering you cannot over socialize a pup you will not go far wrong."Failing to socialize pups properly will almost
certainly lead to a timid, agressive and badly behaved dog when in other company".
Prepairing the pup for work
It is very important to encourage pups to hunt, point and retrieve at a very young age if you want a dog with good drive at an
older age. I openly encourage pups to chase game when young and bring them back into line when older it gives them added
drive and desire in the hunt.I also allow pups to "run in" when in early training, again pulling them up later as it gives me the
desire in the retrieve i'm looking for, allowing the pup to have his head early doors will pay dividends later in the pups progress
a point to remember is too much interference in the pups natural abilaty will stifle him,too much use of the whistle is a classic if
you continually recall him he will not range wide and you will struggle to send him out any distance away from you.
Water training is a very important part of any pups progress,it is more the case for Falcongreen Bajnok aka "Gunner"as he is a
wildfowlers dog, here his owner Aaron has the foresight to enter into the water to give the pup all the confidence he needs to be
able to swim in deep water for the first time, training a wire is all about giving him total confidence in you, the more he trusts
and bonds with you, the more he will want to please and work for you, any mistrust he has will transact into negative actions,
he must trust you and you him, otherwise you will not see his full prowess in his natural working ability.
A field trial we visited in Hungary,
trials and work tests are good
benchmarks for how succesful your
training has been.
This trial was for Hungarian Vizslas
and Hungarian wire haired Vizslas
only, the dogs came from the Cech
rep,Slovakia and Hungary.There are a
number of big trials in and around
Hungary some of them are very
prestigious.In October Hungary
held the European cup, and run
inconjunction with the Hungarian
Derby, i myself competed in the Derby
and it gave me a bench mark on how
my dogs are progressing in their
development.
Bajnok "Gunner" & Bodza retrieving at 5 months old, i find allowing retrieving at a young age a must.

THE HUNGARIAN DERBY 2008 "CEGLED" HUNGARY
Many competitors use the Hungarian Derby for young dogs they are bringing on, doing a trial like this is all about taking part
and testing you and your dog to the max , you will soon see if training is being taken on well or not. It also gives you an insight
on how your partnership is developing , many questions will be asked of you and your dog on his "run" and you must overcome
each one as they arise, but mistakes must be made be it large or small to enable you to move forward as the perfect dog or
trainer has not been born yet, a football coach is always waiting for a player to make a mistake so he can step in and do what he
loves "coach",dog training is no different i see to many trainers getting angry and frustrated when things are not going well,
wire's will pick up on this and it will go from bad to worst STOP and carmly start again if it still dos'nt work tommorows another
day.I found this trial great i only wish i had run more than one dog, the only pressure on yourself or your dog is what you put
on so i strongly recommend anyone to have ago at a trial like this.

Our HPR Training Clinic
In the summer of 2009 we put together a problem clinic for HPRs, the clinic is split into three classes novice, intermediate and
advanced,we try as best we can to simulate real time hunting, pointing and retrieving using the shotgun and natural fur and
feather for retrieves and live game for pointing and aim to overcome any problem's that you may have ,the clinic is very
informative and fun to attend.
The clinic concentrates on
HUNTING speed and style, quatering, ranging and command.POINTING the steadyness, holding,
tracking moving game ,the flush and the drop.
RETRIEVING the steadyness, command, desire, style and presentation.
Because we run our own shoot we have plenty of game on the ground and will have regular field meets and shoot over days to
put the training into practice. The clinic has also taken on blood scent tracking, water work and continental style field trials.
